La Semana Santa
In March 2024, I traveled to Seville to document the events happening during "La Semana Santa". The "Holy Week", as it is called in English, is a major religious festival in Spain, leading up to Easter Sunday. It is renowned for its elaborate processions, which feature ornately decorated floats carrying statues of the Virgin Mary and Jesus Christ. These processions are organized by brotherhoods, some of which date back to the Middle Ages. Participants often wear traditional robes and hoods, creating a solemn and dramatic atmosphere. The event attracts thousands of visitors each year, making it one of the most significant and celebrated events in Spain. After some spectacular processions the weather changed dramatically, so many events got cancelled, which is a real tragedy for the people of Sevilla, especially the brotherhoods, who spend much time preparing the events of the Semana Santa.
